Yes, I'm going to release version 4.0 with the current git HEAD plus a
few more items.  ETA February 14, 2023.

Sure, you can patch your own 3.1.1 branch with any fixes you need.

I will not be maintaining 3.1.x with bug fixes, unless a really
serious bug appears.  None of the fixes in current git HEAD would
qualify.
