Hello everybody, This and last weekend I programmed a lot, to get the software working. After lots of disappointments and problems, I now chose to use a patched MPG123-Version which has been specially enhanced for frontend-controlling. This way, the perl-script can give much more options for controlling the mpg123-player. The Perl-script is server-client-structured and network-able. So you can control it from your PC as well as from the MP3-Box-Buttons, of course. There are even some Gkrellm, GTK, PHP, CGI and ncurses - Programs, which could be used for these reasons. (But they are not exactly for my Server, so we would have to adapt them a bit.) As soon as I have some Time (and my flatrate -- yes, the german telecom didn't send me the DSL in time), I will upload it all and place it on CVS. For now, you just have to trust me, that it works GREAT ! Ronny -- ron...@li... http://www.linuxnetmag.de http://www.linuxmp3box.de ICQ# 17823333 --- FAX: (089) 2443-27305 |

Have you search to search.cpan.org, search with key 'mp3' you will see acouple of modules with mp3 On Sat, 25 Nov 2000, Ronny Ziegler wrote: > Hello everybody, > > does someone of you know a Perl-Module which helps me to > get the length (in seconds) of an mp3-File? > > I'm writing a perl-script at the moment, which plays > the mp3-Files (via mpg123) and shows the Mp3-Tags on the > LC-Display (Via MP3-ID3v1Tag-Module). Hello, now, that the Playlist works rather wall, I'm thiniking of the next important part of the MP3-Box. I don't like it to have my songs played randomly. I want to implement a point-System, where you can rate your songs with points, so that the songs you like best are played more often than the other ones. The normal yes/no-Playlist aren't good enough for my needs ;) Has somebody a good idea of an algorithm to build something like this? My idea ist something like: *give every song a point between 0-10 *before playing look at the ratingpoints of the Song *(I dont know what to do here) Now we have to find a algorithm to play or not to play the song Maybe a "Point-pool". If you play a good-rated song, remove some points from the pool. If the pool is nearly empty, the algorithm can fill up the pool by playing a low-rated song, so that these songs are also played, but not so often. Most important is to have some free variables, which you can adjust, to your own feal, how often a low-rated song should be played. Someone have an Idea of a better algorithm ? In the next step, a song should be rated lower, if you often press the "Next-Song"-Button on your player, so that every new song starts with e.g. 5 points and raises his points, if it is always played completely, but looses some points, if you always skip this song. Hello everybody, does someone of you know a Perl-Module which helps me to get the length (in seconds) of an mp3-File? I'm writing a perl-script at the moment, which plays the mp3-Files (via mpg123) and shows the Mp3-Tags on the LC-Display (Via MP3-ID3v1Tag-Module). But I also want to show the play-time in seconds and don't know where to get this Information. Ronny |

Yes! (You are not alone , hmhmhmhm --M.Jackson) It's just a bit quiet for now, because we all (4 devel. at the moment) have not much time. Hello, i made a small draft, how the software-components should interact (this is my model, better ideas are welcome). You can find it at http://linuxmp3box.sourceforge.net/software.html as soon as I uploaded these images. Ronny |

Hello, I just connected all Buttons on my Player to the Joystickport (all 12), and added a turnable (??) resistor to my LCD-Light, so I can change the brightness, if I want. But my Question is the following: Should we really use Apache as Web-Server? It's so monstrous and slow on low-end hardware! What about Roxen, Zorc or even AOL-Server? Do these ones support PHP3(4) or are these ones even worse for our tasks? Ronny -- ron...@li... http://www.linuxnetmag.de ICQ# 17823333 FAX: (089) 2443-27305 |

Hmm, I cannot connect to shell.sourceforge.net for now. So you all have to wait a day for the update. Sorry -- ron...@li... http://www.linuxnetmag.de ICQ# 17823333 FAX: (089) 2443-27305 |

Hello everybody, Jan, could you pleas inform us, how your booting-CD works (design, packages and where to find web-pages with some info?) At the moment, I'm working on installing otto (Web-Frontend) on my MP3-Box, but thats harder than I thought, because it doesn't have enough Memory to compile it and the neede Perl-Modules. (But I'm working around this problem ;) Ronny -- ron...@li... http://www.linuxnetmag.de ICQ# 17823333 FAX: (089) 2443-27305 |

Hello, until now, i thougt it would be a good idea to use a mySQL-database behind the Webfrontend together with PHP3(4) webpages, but i tested otto today (it uses exactly these components), but im really disappointed. IT'S SOOO SLOW. As long, as you dont have lots of Mem an a fast CPU it's a bad idea to use these progs for our webfrontend. So, what now? The MP3-Box should be a low-end machine, and the MP3-Database should be placed on this machine, and not on a server in the LAN. Do we need another database (some small and fast one), or should we use no database at all? (A textfile, which stores all MP3s?) Ronny -- ron...@li... http://www.linuxnetmag.de ICQ# 17823333 FAX: (089) 2443-27305 |
