For my case, the router is a Geode/233 MHz with 128MB RAM and 256MB "hard drive." It's very low-power (4W wall-wart IIRC), and it and my cable modem can run for many hours on their UPS. The description of the Core software makes it pretty clear that my firewall would be a tad underpowered for that purpose. I have an NFSv4 and Samba enabled file server, with about 1TB of storage in hardware raid, with a ~1300 MHz processor and a good chunk of RAM. The slow processor there makes me think Core wouldn't be too happy with that machine. I'm also planning on re-building that machine to Solaris 10 soon, and I'm guessing that LinuxMCE doesn't run on Solaris. The machine I'd like to run the Core on would by my gf's development machine, which is a Core Duo (4600?) with gigE, lots of memory, and a small-ish hard drive. All files would be stored on the file server, so that shouldn't be an issue, but the dev server does not serve dhcp; it has to reboot sometimes, and I just really like having my firewall do dhcp. So... Is there a way to have my firewall send its dhcpd logs to the Core software so that it thinks it has a dhcpd server running, or do you run a modified dhcpd that communicates directly with the Core software? |
