Dear colleagues, I wish you a merry Christmas and time to be spent with family and friends! Don't forget that you can donate your Karma points to Linux and OpenSource projects via your personal settings page. So, make a Xmas gift to other projects by selecting your favorite donation target at: http://www.linux-hardware-guide.com/wp-admin/profile.php or http://www.linux-hardware-guide.de/wp-admin/profile.php I hope I can also find some free time to work on the Linux-Hardware-Guide over the upcoming days. There seem to be some major problems that I think should be tackled over the next days: 1) The server speed seems to be constantly decreasing. Maybe this is due to the amount of recently uploaded hardware scans and articles created out of these scan. Probably, the page does not scale very well. At least it seems not to come from the amount of page visitors. This will need some detailed investigation of the code and SQL requests. If someone is interested in supporting me, let me know. I could provide you access to the developer machines where one can test and modify the code without harming the real site. 2) There is still a big backlog of scans. Currently, I am the only one who creates articles out of scans and I would like to also allow other users to do this. But instead of analyzing all the scans I would rather develop the code to let also other users to create articles from scans. If you are interested in analyzing scans and creating articles, we could work on this together. You can tell me what features you need and I could try to implement them (although unfortunately it often takes some time since currently I am working alone on the code). Best regards, cptpike |
