Hi ho. FWIW, I found a place[1] that sells cf2ide adapters via a secure shopping site. I bought two at ~$20ea + 4.50 UPS ground. The shipping cost was the same for 1 or 2 adapters and might be true for a few more. CompactFlash offers a solid-state IDE(ish) interface that, given a passive adapter, you could boot PC hardware from. Coupled with a LEAF (http://leaf.sf.net) distribution and some low power components one could build a variety of fanless "appliances" (routers, HomeAuto, X-term, LTSP client, etc.). I've liked the LEAF concept for a long time. Minimal Debian derivation, secure by default (it's got a firewall focus). Wicked fast boot (10s). I'm going to update my cf2ide pages[2] in a day or so to be more of a "why" resource more than a "how" :) John [1] http://www.acscontrol.com [2] http://www.projectplasma.com/cf2ide |
