Bluetooth has a lot of folks excited, but it is starting to look like 
CeBus.  Lots of promise but taking forever.  But I expect Bluetooth will 
reach store shelves soon.

Unfortunately, Bluetooth won't ever make it into my house :(  I'm 
working on my March 2001 column and it will cover wireless networking 
for the home.

One very bad thing about Bluetooth is it kills 802.11 wireless 
networking.  They interfere with each other in a huge way.

Bluetooth is exciting because UART to wireless is a default mode for it 
which makes it ideal for making some RS-485 nodes wireless.  But I also 
expect 802.11 networking will start making a huge dent in home 
networking now that access points are just over $200 and cards are < $100.

Just something to ponder.  Bluetooth could do amazing things for HA. 
But if they can't get Bluetooth and 802.11 to get along, it will be a 
Major problem.  Only time will tell.  I know they are working on it.

Excellent!  I was really happy to see the variety of HA stuff out there. 
  RS-485 based HA is alive and well, but there are lots of alternatives 
too.  Microsoft wasn't even there (booths were too small I guess!)  The 
interesting thing is I was just as excited in the contacts I made with 
other vendors and talk of collaboration as I was with the customer 
contacts.  The idea of an RS-485 HA network standard protocol has me 
really excited.  We'll see how things go.
