Nope target.com doesn't have it listed. SDK and product manuals can be had here: http://world.casio.com/download/pv/euro/ Although it looks like the PV-x00 product line has been replaced by the PV-Sx50 line. Hmmm, doesn't look like the x00 line had PC-Sync capability and the ones I saw in the store definitely did. Worth a trip tomorrow. The Casio site has the PV-S450 (for example; I took a shot at the 'x' in your post :-) as "This product is Archived", while if you go to the Personal PCs->Pocket Viewers page, it lists the PV-S200e, PV-S250, PV-S400Plus, and PV-S600Plus in a way that implies they are all current products. This is targeted towards the North American market. Their schtick is cheap and "disposable" as opposed to some models that challenge a desktop in price. The unit is a little larger than I had hoped and would probably require a custom mounting. The contrast can be adjusted so that regulation switch height mounting is readable. The pixels are monochrome (on or off, no gray). The EL backlight is quite bright. The Sx00Plus models seem to have a slightly different SDK that the one I pointed out yesterday. It can be found here: http://www.casio.com/pvdownload/ There are a handful of user sites out there, mostly EU centric, so discussions tend to center around the Sx60 products. I think that's more hassle than its worth... OTOH, the microprocessor is a NEC V30 derivative, so perhaps one of the micro-*nix's can be installed. My nit is that I don't (yet) see a way to autolaunch an app at power-on. OTOH, my pipe-dream is that with the application I have in mind, I could create enough of a market that a custom batch could be built specifically for home automation command & control: - multidrop serial (rs485, etc.) - custom start up - j-box mountable form factor and packaging - different startup contrast - external power At a minimum. The default backlight timeout is a joke, but it seems that it can be overridden by a running application. (The e-book reader does this). > Well I opened it but you'd have to be very good with fine pitch pins to > do it. Hrm, did you notice if the connector for the serial cable could handle an external power supply? > I checked the links, looks good, I guess we really need to wireless > attachment to really take full advantage of it. :-) Anyway I'll see what > I can come up with at a later date. Well, if you wanted to do 802.11b, you'd probably wind up spending the diff between the cost of this device and a cheap WinCE with a CF wireless nic. OTOH, somewhere on the webring, somebody built an IR emitter that plugged into the serial cable. John |
