I have to ass something here.. The Katana dev kit (the scsi device that SEGA gave (ahem) to (*registered*) developers to create DC software doesn't work quite the same as the real dreamcast. I do not know for sure what the differences are, but I have seen people developed on those, and unfortunatly, they don't boot anything but GDRom, but run software from the PC host. so you might be able to load the kernel directly, but unless you can find blank GDROMs, then you are probably not going to go real far without a real DC.
