You have to set three kernel parameters:
root=/dev/nfs
nfsroot=[<server-ip>:]<root-dir>[,<nfs-options>]
ip=<client-ip>:<server-ip>:<gw-ip>:<netmask>:<hostname>:<device>:<autoconf>
It is fully documented in the kernel's Documentation/nfsroot.txt. In my
experience, it's best to start with static IPs all over the place, then
migrate over to BOOTP once you have things working.
