Bummer...

Even so, however, I get the distinct feeling that this is because of
some kind of bus lockup or similar, rather than a kernel panic --
especially since you stated earlier that you hadn't even patched your
kernel with ruby.

In fact, why not try patching the kernel with ruby and see if that
works? It might just be worth a shot...
