PS2 mouse entry does not show up?!

Dear friends:

I traced out that the previous problems were because of the dependency 
problems and particularly related with the desktop distribution of the 
debian-based SimplyMEPIS-2004.06.

I have installed the patched ruby-kernel-2.6.7 from the c3sl site and it gets 
booted fine. But the problem is when I execute "cat /proc/bus/input/devices", 
it shows of 5 entries like below in vanilla 2.6.7 kernel, but with the 
patched ruby-kernel, the PS/2  mouse entry (the first one in the below) does 
not show up. And obviously, the PS/2 mouse stops functioning under the 
ruby-kernel. Any idea? For your perusal, I am including the output of the 
normal kernel:
