This might sound futuristic at present, but the opportunities are tremendous. Presently, we are limited by the PCI bus in terms of available slots, throughput and the fact PCI is only on desktop computers. Also, the installation procedure requires opening up the computer, which limits the acceptance of Ruby. Laptops and mobile devices are coming down in price and are widely available. Furthermore, they have plenty of unused processing power which could easily be used by additional concurrent users. We should consider how to output video streams via USB or other channels such that legacy CRTs, keyboards and mice can be connected to laptops, etc. Yitzhak Bar Geva |
