this is without framebuffer drivers compiled in/ loaded ?

Jammes posted today a big framebuffer update,
so we have to wait until Linus do merges it
(and Aivils updates ruby to the updated source )

probably framebuffer issue,
have you tried without compiled in framebuffer drives ?
you should have VGA console on tty1-tty6

for multiple we need working framebuffer drivers :(

may be try inputattach(or smth similar)
from linuxconsole's cvs ( directory ruby/utils/ )

you probably need to switch to alsa,
which are the default for 2.6

but the user space programs are not yet updated
