do not renice X under 2.6
the "multimedia" / interactivity patches got merged in test6
and if you renice X you'll probably get skratchy sound, ..

please try switching to gdm

? or you don't have serial devices ?

please try to setup the devices under vanilla 2.6,
actually there are no related changes in ruby-2.6,
so you probably have to find more info on 
the 2.4 -> 2.6 switch

are the serial drivers loaded?, compiled in ?
