i'm not sure, but i think here gdm does work,
i didn't try xdm but i do have the prolem if kdm is used

Aiivils could you send me the fix( and only the fix :-) )
as i was just about to upload rpms :
- test7bk6
- ruby-2.6
- libata
- fbdev updates from -mm
- net updates for t7bk6
- may be some more small patches

remove it (vga=...)
if fb is working you should get a nice colour logo
and then try to find the proper boot line :-)

may be also video=vesafb:1024x768-24@70

it's probably driver specific, but with my radeon7500
if i use"video=radeonfb:1024x....."  boot-up looks nice,
but at somepoint (mostly when X starts) the PC hangs
if i omit the mode (1024x....) everything seems to work
and i can chage the resolution with fbset

there is ~1.2Mb uncompressed fbdev update in -mm,
and even more changes in the fbdev bk tree
hopefully Jammes will submit updates to Linus soon

the patch applies cleanly to test7-bk[smth] and seems to work OK here
(to test7 with small offsets, IIRC pid changes in test6bk[smth] which got
reverted
 in test7bk1[the pid changes were broken)
