so it sounds like there's a mapping that we don't get until the console 
redesign is finished... we're not going to want to push for an xfree 
patch upstream until it's extremely clean.

there are some changes in pci stuff, leds, ioctls, etc. but hopefully 
that can be selected at runtime or otherwise cleaned up without much 
trouble.
