I discovered the problem. A note to the SuSE developers on this list. SuSE
7.1 has the wrong minor numbers for /dev/input/eventX. They are the same
as /dev/input/mouseX which was causing confussion. I had to use mknod to
change the numbers. I really should use devfs.

Well only one USB hub port is working on my PC at work. The rest have seen
better days :-(
