This will be fixed for 2.5.X. I'm working on a solution now. IMNSHO the
kernel should manage switching from VGA text mode to some graphical mode
and visa versa. Same for fbcon. Opening /dev/fb should manage shutdown the
console system itself. One we can't count on XFree86 getting it right.
Second I have seen reports of when X fails under heavy load or some other
bizzare reason to properly reset the console itself. This leaves the
machine in a useless state and requires a reboot. I'm also working on
this.

MS: (n) 1. A debilitating and surprisingly widespread affliction that
renders the sufferer barely able to perform the simplest task. 2. A disease.
