For serial everything input. But onlt for serial, yes. It's because the
serial port is a TTY and thus needs an userspace program to change the
line discipline.

Maybe yes. But I've talked today with Jaroslav Kysela, the ALSA author
and he'll be adding gameport support to the relevant soundcard drivers.
