Hi! I started the cleanup of vt.c (former console.c). I have implemented the idea of struct vt_struct to represent a physical virtual terminal and vc_data for VCs. This will remove the need for fg_console and currcon in the console code. This will take a few days to do. The big obstacle to overcome is the 64 VC limit. This also affects the serial tty drivers. The best way to handle this is have tty support hot swappable devices. As you seen from the earlier posting by me and Vojtech the potential to have at least 128 and even many more is very possible. Q: Why did they deprecate a.out support in linux? A: Because a nasty coff is bad for your elf.
