excelent point...  so the entire thing could be done in user space, 
therefore not needing any blessings from linus or anyone else.  I'm going to 
retract myself from this conversation now letting you guys finish it, since 
i don't produce any actual code, and i'm no longer subscribed to the list. 
:)
