As I wrote before, this is in my opinion the only reasonable soulution. There should be exactly one console that gets the printk messages if no klogd is running. If you want to have it on all consoles, run klogd and syslogd and have them spread the word on all consoles. Steffen PS: Think of what would happen in a multi-display environment if you would allow for any number of consoles getting printk() output from the in-kernel console_printk driver.
