amd64 trouble - how to initialize secondary video cards?

I tried booting a 64-bit ruby kernel today.
Userspace is still debian i386 though.

The second display failed, because the video adapter need
bios initialization.  I got this in my dmesg:

XFree86: vm86 mode not supported on 64 bit kernel

So what to do?  Is it fixable by installing a X compiled
for amd64?  Or do I need to find a video card that doesn't
need any bios initialization?

I found it interesting.  It is a nice and fast processor,
and not as register-limited as x86.  The 1.8GHz opteron
feels a lot faster than the 2.4GHz pentium-4 I use at work. :-)

I have 64 bit FC3 on my machine, X simply works on both cards.
It might not use the vm86 mode but it initializes both Radeons
just fine.

Lately, I recompiled XOrg with Ben Herrenschmidt's Radeon fixes,
and there is a new driver option called "VGAAccess" and I switched
it off on one of the cards. It solved the only thing left that annoyed
me using multihead: logging off on :0 blanked :1. Changing resolution
brought it back, but now it's not needed.
