on debian i always did well without them. but then i allways
tried to use make-kpkg from the package kernel-package when
building kernels.
i will try to build a new (2.6.0) kernel Real Soon Now and put it
into my repository so debian users can apt-get and install it
easily. right now the server is down due to unknown reasons, by
the way, so dont bother trying.
