Why not use the FB?

I'm currious if there is any reason that a person would not want to use the
framebuffer and the fbdev xserver on a typical desktop machine.  Are there
any drawbacks to X via the framebuffer (other then maybe less cards are
supported currently)?

there is no card specific acceleration, it's pretty slower,
no XVideo support, and i think no DRI support
