This is the monthly administrative posting for the linuxcommand-discuss mailing list. The purpose of this list is to promote discussion between users of the LinuxCommand.org web site. Discussions should focus on use of the command line interface in Linux and writing bash shell programs. Only subscribers to the list can post messages. If you have multiple email addresses, you should subscribe each one if you wish to post from them. The mailing list is configured so that replies will be sent to the original sender, not the list. If you wish to reply to the list, you must explicitly do so. When posting messages, please include a descriptive subject line. This will help users of the mailing list archive identify relevant postings. General information about the mailing list is at: http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/linuxcommand-discuss If you ever want to unsubscribe or change your options (eg, switch to or from digest mode, change your password, etc.), visit your subscription page at: http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/options/linuxcommand-discuss/you@addr Where "you@addr" is your mailing address. You can also make such adjustments via email by sending a message to: Lin...@li... with the word `help' in the subject or body (don't include the quotes), and you will get back a message with instructions. Thanks and happy postings! |

You have a corrupt filesystem. You may or may not be able to fix this. Enter the root password and the system will go into single user mode. From there you will want to run fschk on the problem file system (/dev/hda1). In general, if fsck suggests a corrective action, do it. At the prompt try this: fsck /dev/hda1 Also consult the man pages for fsck and e2fsck. Now as to why this happened, there are two likely reasons: 1. The hard disk has failed. 2. You did something improper like turning the machine off without shutting it down first. Anybody else experienced with filesystem repair? -- ||||| William Shotts, Jr. (bs...@cl...) ||||| http://www.clark.net/pub/bshotts/ (Updated 04/13/2000) ||||| Be a Linux Commander! Since we are discussing project ideas, here's one: I could use a program that converts bash scripts into html. In particular, I would like it to do syntax highlighting like the fancy text editors. I would use such a program in constructing the upcoming "Writing Shell Scripts" lessons. Let me know if there are any takers. Hi! I just wondered how this is done: When I get an email (on my own server, sendmail) I want to forward specific lines from this email to another email address (say e.g. the From-line and the first line of the body). How is this done? I know there is a file .forward where you can forward the whole message .. Maybe someone knows .. Tom |

I'm still subscribed as well! I simply haven't done anything worth discussing.LOL For the past few weeks I've been kicking around the idea of installing my 1-way Cable modem in my Red Hat box and using it as an "internet gateway" for my home network. With DSL service only a few months away, this has become less important and more of a "if I get the chance" project. In spite of this, I feel the experience would be useful and challenging so if anyone has tried this or has some info, pass it along! Thanks, Scott Reed |

No, there are a bunch of people on the list. Nobody wants to talk about anything. How can we fix that? I was hoping that this could be a popular feature of the site. BTW: You are not using the email address you are subscribe with. I had to manually approve your post. The site itself continues to develop. There have been over 3200 file downloads and over 30,000 page views of the SourceForge logo counter. I am getting about 20 hits per hour. Believe it or not, LinuxCommand.org ranks in the top 9% of all SourceForge projects. ||||| William Shotts, Jr. (bs...@cl...) ||||| http://www.clark.net/pub/bshotts/ (Updated 04/13/2000) ||||| Be a Linux Commander!
