Humm does using --without-APACHE avoids the creation of the conf file and u its installation ? If yes, it's not what I want. What about generating BOLD warnings, instead of aborting ending with "You build is correct but won't work on that system" ? Remember that it's only for tar.gz, as for packages, depedencies take care of that, and will enforce it. After all it's not different when you use --nodeps with rpm to install a package anyway. Moreover, I forgot to mention it, but your checks are not working on all distros, as the most recent do not use mkisofs anymore but genisoimage, ....
