Ok, I check the doc before asking (sorry for the habits :-) andfound
that this is probably not true. Cf:

I think you could indeed try that:

append auto_install=path/to/test.cfg automatic=method:cdrom ramdisk_size=128000
initrd=network.rdz root=/dev/ram3 acpi=ht vga=788

Let me know if you're able to use that with success. (or not :-)
