Another followup:  John also noted his Maverick install was ignoring the preseed entries for installation source and going after the UK Ubuntu mirror as if it was hardcoded in the installer.  That does seem to be the case, I've duped it.  There's an open bug against 10.10:

If anyone has any workaround ideas I'm all ears.
