Linux Cluster Manager 2.90 Released!

Linux Cluster Manager 2.90 released. LCM is a graphical tool for monitoring and managing multiple Linux systems from a central location. Features include real time monitoring and status information, remote command execution, and a range of imaging features.

Feature Enhancements / Bug Fixes
- Image files updated fixing a list of bugs such as swap partition creation errors, kernel boot problems, and generally cleaned things up
- Deployment process modified to include better error handling and detection of client OS
- Clients now rebuild an initial ram disk to correct boot errors on image deployment
- LCM now monitors memory and storage targets with the ability to group storage resources into custom monitored pools
- Graphing functions improved to display memory totals and IP addresses
- New node management system automates much of the manual entry previously required
- IP addresses are automatically resolved, MAC address and storage resources are automatically polled from running clients
- LCMexec had several bugs corrected when issuing commands as root
- Bugs in data presentation while recording monitor data for more than 10 hosts have been corrected (host ordering)
- Debian packages for easier installation
- Source rpm packages have been created for easier distribution to those that wish or are required to run from source

Feature Enhancements
- LCM is now capable of monitoring Solaris 10 clients as well as Linux
- The Solaris client will allow all monitoring functions as well as basic hardware inventory support
- This release has been tested under Solaris 10 x86 but should work under Sparc systems as well

Linux Cluster Manager 2.75 released. LCM is a graphical tool for monitoring and managing multiple Linux systems from a central location. Features include real time monitoring and status information, remote command execution, and a range of imaging features.

Feature Enhancements / Bug Fixes
- Debian port is complete fixing a long list of bugs for that platform
- Source distributions have been created allowing a choice to run either from source through TCL/TK or as binary packages
- An option has been added to allow for a custom command timeout option for lcmexec both from the GUI and command line
- A bug in lcmexec where an ssh session without a username or password would error has been corrected
- Default rates for network monitor targets has been added for those devices that are not able to detect their connect rate
- Added support for Solaris 10 x86 client
- Numerous image capture fixes
- Added option to specify a dhcpd.conf location to allow for custom installations
- TFTP service checks for imaging support has been improved
- Monitor will allow a capture of displayed data to a user specified CSV file for further analysis

- Fixed a problem where clients would not connect to server for imaging when multiple interfaces were present on the server

- Includes a 2.6.17 kernel in both 32 and 64 bit for imaging support

Linux Cluster Manager 2.50-1 released. LCM is a graphical tool for monitoring and managing multiple Linux systems from a central location. Features include real time monitoring and status information, remote command execution, and a range of imaging features.

Feature Enhancements:
- LCM now support monitoring network adapters other than eth<x> such as bonded adapters
- New inventory management system accessed through either clicking the node name on the main page or the new menu option
- Inventory scaned: environment, main board, processors, memory layout, and PCI slots
- Inventory is collected at a basic level from the kernel and detailed level from hwinfo, see the manual for more information
- Export inventory to a CSV file for analysis or storage in a spread sheet
- LCMClient has been modified to support both additional network adapters and hardware information
- New menu graphics
- Corrected a parse error when reading newer dhcpd.conf files
- Searching for process information is much quicker as it only attaches to nodes running lcmclient... read more

The new manual has been completely rewritten from the ground up. Many examples and screen shots have been included to assist you in configuration and management of your Linux cluster.

1.0 Imaging notes

It has come to my attention that the imaging support has some faults in the 1.00-rc1 release. This is being corrected (along with a list of improvements) in the upcoming 2.00 release in early July, stay tuned.
