Hi,
I'm running an old Siemens-Nixdorf Scenic Mobile 510 AGP with
Mandrake 10, and in one of the PCMCIA slots there's VIA
Technologies, Inc. IEEE1394/Firewire Host Controller (rev 80)
installed, which is perfectly fine (?) recognized and configured by
Mandrake. E.g.
root# lspci
00.00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX
Host bridge (rev 03)
00.01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX
AGP bridge (rev 03)

ieee1394: ConfigROM quadlet transaction error for node 0-00:1023
ieee1394: Node changed: 0-00:1023 -> 0-01:1023
Attached to this firewire adaptor is a Yamaha CRW2100IX CD-R/RW
drive, which according to the compatiblity list on http://
www.linux1394.org ist reported to be working smoothly and w/o any
problems!
Unfortunately my Mandrake linux doesn't recognize this drive,
although when disconnecting it from the firewire adapter something
is written to the message log
root# dmesg (unplugged)

Any ideas?

When connecting a Freecom RX50 DVD-/+RW drive to the Firewire/
IEEE1394 adaptor everything works just fine!
