1394 and Linux

Hello everyone!
Well, on my Fujitsu C Series Lifebook I've been unable to get ANY linux 
distro to work with my 1394 Maxtor hard drive.
I get that infamous error about time loging into device.  A google 
search shows many people asking about that, but few, if any, answers 
that work.

On Linux, it seems that you either have hardware that works right off 
the bat, or your hardware just does not work.

Enter FreeBSD 5.0 Release!  Firewire drive working PERFECTLY!
It has taken me longer to get a working "Desktop" solution.  Complete 
with Java and Flash, Open Office etc. than it does with any linux 
distro.  But I can use my external drive!
