confusion

OK, i figured out what was up with my bios patches and stuff.  The
Spacewalker HOT-591P mobo that I have has BIOS patches for DOS.  Thank
god.  

The maker of the IDE chips, Viatech, has some sort of specialty driver for
windows.  I don't know what it does or why it is necessary for windows,
but it was not necessary for linux. 

Also, I am going to assume that dvgrab complaining about buffer underruns
is ok, or at least more ok than the dropped packets problem i was having
before.  Can someone correct me if i am wrong?
