Hello,
First, don't worry, your 1394 system seems to be installed fine.
Your sony camera is a Digital camera, following the dc 1394
specifications from IEEE.
dvgrab works with dv based devices such as dv video recorders. These
devices use a Dv format to transmit video and audio on the 1394 bus.
Moreover, they are compliant with the AV/C standart in order to control
them from an other devices on the bus. gscanbus recognizes AV/C devices
and provides some control possibilities (play/stop/pause).
but gscanbus does not recognize digital cameras.
I have the same camera which works fine with libdc. Libdc is a great (i
really think so) library in order to control all camera features (zoom,
iris, gain,....). If you have a look to the link section, you will find
the libdc homepage (at sourceforge). If you have a look into the
archives of this list (last week). you will find samples to acquire
frames using this library.
