Installation support

i installed suse7.0, downloaded kernel 2.2.17 from
kernel.org and the patch ieee1394-2.2.17-20001012.gz
fom your homepage.

i followed your installation instructions but can not
apply the patch. i get the following message.

bash-2.04# zcat ieee1394-2.2.17-20001012.gz | patch -p1
can't find file to patch at input line 4
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?

yes, the links  /usr/src/linux-2.2 and
/usr/src/linux-2.2.orig exist and point to the
/usr/src/linux-2.2.17 or /usr/src/linux-2.2.17.orig
directory.

i'm not familar with patching... so what did i do wrong?
