dropped frames, lots of em

Hello.  I have gotten my OHCI compliant firewire card to work perfectly,
but I average 4 dropped frames per second.  Here is the kicker: I still
get the same thing if I only capture every 2nd frame, or even 10th.  I
have a brand new 48 gig 7200 rpm drive that I am using to capture to.
This is a real head scratcher to me, considering that this problem still
occurs if i reduce the captured frames to 1 out of 10.
