No, please do NOT do that.
The GUID of a device is the GLOBAL unique ID. Even if you have the exact same
model of a device like I do, they will have different GUIDs. The guid.conf
from gscanbus is an ugly dirty cludge, just to make it display your particular
devices correctly, and the IDs I put in are bogus. Finding a better way to
identify devices is already on my agenda, but I it is currently very hard for
me to get enough spare time to even fix the segfault.
Anyway: If someone has a device identification library in the works, I will
happily make use of it.
The key fields for identifying a device should probably be Vendor ID and
Model ID. Model ID seems to be 0 in many cases, so a combination of Vendor ID
and some other values (like Unit Spec ID, Unit SW Version, etc.) might be
appropriate. I am sure there is some document clarifying all this somewhere on
the net.
