Simple questions

I am following this mailing list since a few months and I am now beginning 
writing some code to link 2 computers by ieee1394 under Linux. Since I am 
beginning, I plan to use only asynchronous transactions but I will have to 
use isochronous transactions in the future (for bandwith purposes). I know 
that Iso write function is still not written so I know that I'll have to do 
it one of theese days.

But first, I have to answer this question:
  - What does FCP and HPSB stands for?

IEC 61883-1 says in chapter 9 (section 9.1) on page 37: "Function
control protocol (FCP) is designed in order to control devices connected
through a IEEE 1394 bus. Various command sets and various command
transactions are available on FCP. FCP is designed to be based on IEEE
1393, an FCP uses asynchronous packets of iIEEE 1394 for sending
commands and responses..."

It is used for example by AV/C (audio video control) to control cameras,
dvb tuners etc. You can have a look to the AV/C standard (available on
http://www.1394ta.org/Download/Technology/Specifications/AVC_30.pdf) for
a detailed explanation.

Commands are sent (as write transactions) by the controller to the fcp
command register at the target. Responses are sent by the target to the
fcp response register of the controller.

I do not know, what hpsb is (but I do not either need it).

Of course you need it.

Look at the 1394 spec -- 1394 *is* the High Performance Serial Bus -- HPSB.
