That's possible - especially if you're using the 1600SW screen - in this case
you have to tell the kernel to use this device (the old 2.2.10 was able to detect this)
Add this to your kernel starting parameters in arc firmware: video=sgivw:monitor:1600sw

My one is at home... while i'm not at home...

But basically you need this:
- Visual Workstation support
- VW framebuffer support
- USB HID
- if you have, Qlogic 1080/1280 SCSI
- Serial console (in case of trouble with the framebuffer

Basically a normal framebuffer configuration, but with 2.5.x there are
still some problems:
- 32Bit mode seems to be broken
- 15Bit mode works with X, but Xrender extensions don't work
- 8Bit mode should be ok
