Hi, I hope I follow all your guidelines for posting in this list as this is my first post here and I couldn't find much documentation about how to file a request. If I do something wrong I hope you forgive me and still want to help me. I recently received a new laptop to do my work on. It's a HP Elitebook 840G5. While HP doesn't bother to support anything else than Windows most of the hardware works out of the box. Not the webcam(s) though. It seems to have quite a cool webcam as it has a iR webcam even. HP has this information available: http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c05868510.pdf (quickspecs HP Elitebook 840 G5) I have collected all information I could find and put in this gist: https://gist.github.com/aswen/6887719c7cef7b15311b08938634bb19 I would like to ask you guys to add support for this webcam to the uvcvideo driver. I don't know what else information you need or if there is any way I can help (I'm not a developer). Please let me know if it's possible to add support and if there is anything I can do. Thanks a lot for the uvcvideo work so far BTW: I used it for years on my previous and other laptops. Best regards, Alex |

Hello everybody, I am currently working on a project which requires two USB cameras and I need your help. I am trying to run two USB endoscope GEMBIRD cameras simultaneously over one USB bus (as I only have one) to get stereo vision. However, when I try to access the second camera, I'm told "No space left on device". The camera only supports YUYV: Listing available frame formats for device /dev/video0: Pixel format: YUYV (YUYV 4:2:2; MIME type: video/x-raw-yuv) Frame size: 640x480 Frame rates: 30, 15 Frame size: 352x288 Frame rates: 30, 15 Frame size: 320x240 Frame rates: 30, 15 Frame size: 176x144 Frame rates: 30, 15 Frame size: 160x120 Frame rates: 30, 15 It appears that each of the cameras requires 61 % bandwidth, even at the lowest resolution 160x120 and 15 FPS. When I enable USB debugging and run the following: sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices | grep Alloc I get: B: Alloc=489/800 us (61%), #Int= 1, #Iso= 5 B: Alloc= 0/800 us ( 0%), #Int= 0, #Iso= 0 B: Alloc= 0/900 us ( 0%), #Int= 0, #Iso= 0 B: Alloc= 0/900 us ( 0%), #Int= 0, #Iso= 0 dmesg.log shows: [ 2151.749351] uvcvideo: Device requested 3072 B/frame bandwidth. [ 2151.749354] uvcvideo: Selecting alternate setting 1 (3072 B/frame bandwidth). [ 2151.750630] uvcvideo: Allocated 5 URB buffers of 13x3072 bytes each. I have no experienced with drivers, but I did some research and tried multiple things: 1. I have tried to set quirks=0x80, but it does not change anything. 2. In uvc_video.c, I have patched the function uvc_init_video() like this: /* Isochronous endpoint, select the alternate setting. */ //bandwidth = stream->ctrl.dwMaxPayloadTransferSize; bandwidth = 1024; // I have also tried a couple of other bandwidths 3. In uvc_video.c, I have set urb->interval to 16, but it seems to change nothing. When I run sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices | grep Alloc again, I still get #Int=1. 4. Upon reading your replies to Pierre Antoine here: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-media/msg63009.html I have tried to patch config.c in usb core to lower the bandwidth of the endpoint to different values like 512, but it doesn't change anything. I have inserted the following in config.c: if (to_usb_device(ddev)->speed == USB_SPEED_HIGH) { maxp = usb_endpoint_maxp(&endpoint->desc) & 0x07ff; endpoint->desc.wMaxPacketSize = cpu_to_le16(512); } However, I only copied this from Pierre Antoine, I am not really sure if this is correct. E.g. I don't understand what the bitwise & 0x07ff is there for. As far as I understand, there are only two endpoints and therefore two alternate settings: lsusb -v -s 001:107 Bus 001 Device 107: ID 1908:2311 GEMBIRD Couldn't open device, some information will be missing Device Descriptor: bLength 18 bDescriptorType 1 bcdUSB 2.00 bDeviceClass 239 Miscellaneous Device bDeviceSubClass 2 ? bDeviceProtocol 1 Interface Association bMaxPacketSize0 64 idVendor 0x1908 GEMBIRD idProduct 0x2311 bcdDevice 1.00 iManufacturer 1 iProduct 2 iSerial 0 bNumConfigurations 1 Configuration Descriptor: bLength 9 bDescriptorType 2 wTotalLength 341 bNumInterfaces 2 bConfigurationValue 1 iConfiguration 0 bmAttributes 0x80 (Bus Powered) MaxPower 256mA Interface Association: bLength 8 bDescriptorType 11 bFirstInterface 0 bInterfaceCount 2 bFunctionClass 14 Video bFunctionSubClass 3 Video Interface Collection bFunctionProtocol 0 iFunction 2 Interface Descriptor: bLength 9 bDescriptorType 4 bInterfaceNumber 0 bAlternateSetting 0 bNumEndpoints 1 bInterfaceClass 14 Video bInterfaceSubClass 1 Video Control bInterfaceProtocol 0 iInterface 2 VideoControl Interface Descriptor: bLength 13 bDescriptorType 36 bDescriptorSubtype 1 (HEADER) bcdUVC 1.00 wTotalLength 51 dwClockFrequency 48.000000MHz bInCollection 1 baInterfaceNr( 0) 1 VideoControl Interface Descriptor: bLength 18 bDescriptorType 36 bDescriptorSubtype 2 (INPUT_TERMINAL) bTerminalID 1 wTerminalType 0x0201 Camera Sensor bAssocTerminal 0 iTerminal 0 wObjectiveFocalLengthMin 0 wObjectiveFocalLengthMax 0 wOcularFocalLength 0 bControlSize 3 bmControls 0x00000000 VideoControl Interface Descriptor: bLength 11 bDescriptorType 36 bDescriptorSubtype 5 (PROCESSING_UNIT) Warning: Descriptor too short bUnitID 2 bSourceID 1 wMaxMultiplier 0 bControlSize 2 bmControls 0x0000053f Brightness Contrast Hue Saturation Sharpness Gamma Backlight Compensation Power Line Frequency iProcessing 0 bmVideoStandards 0x 9 None SECAM - Is there another way to set the interval other than urb->interval? Or is there another way to change wMaxPacketSize of the second endpoint? I'm not really sure if I did the right thing in the usb core config. Thank you very much in advance. Best regards, Patrick |

Hello, I have just installed Ubuntu on my Dell Latitude 7275 and it's running just fine excepting for my integrated webcam that is not detected. Shame as It is mandatory for my work. It is the only things that forces me keeping a windows version on my laptop. Any chance to support this built-in webcam in the future ? The model is Intel avstream camera 2500 Cheers, Sébastien. |

Hi there. Just bought me one. Hope this is the right place to post: I'm using openSUSE Tumbleweed (cutting edge rolling distro), current as of today. Tested using guvcview. Everything seems to work just fine. Another user's confirmation is here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=131011 Thanks. |

You can try the patches in this message: https://sourceforge.net/p/linux-uvc/mailman/linux-uvc-devel/thread/727db7fa-5f39-f641-1fd2-cd425b38090f%40bisect.de/#msg36316666 At least they fixed the problem for me with a HP Elitebook 830 G5. hi, I have a media PC running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS - recent reinstallation from scratch. Somewhere along the way I think I've installed something which allowed the open source drivers for my TBS6280 freeview tuner card to work. Not sure if this is relevant, but my Logitech C270 webcam is not recognised by Cheese or Skype (but does appear in lsusb). The full story is here: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2391153 My dmesg.log here: https://pastebin.com/SFuWqqHc Grateful for any help you can offer. Michael |

Hi I've just bought a Microsoft Lifecam Cinema HD webcam which is reported by lsusb as ID 045e:0812, which doesn't seem to be on anyone's id lists. (incidentally, I have two other Microsoft Lifecam Cinema HD cameras (allegedly identical models) that are reported as ID 045e:075d). Please advise what further information you need (if any) Regards, Mike |

Hi, The new Dell XPS 9370 ships with cameras that have the same identifiers with different firmware versions. The firmware is not upgradable. Both work in Windows, but only one version works on Linux. This is a report for the version which does NOT work on Linux: dmesg: > [ 832.645239] uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) UVC probe control : -75 > (exp. 34). > [ 832.645247] uvcvideo: Failed to initialize the device (-5). See also: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1775860#p1775860 - it works in VMs with Windows installed as well. Note that this is NOT the unknown video issue (i.e. it's not https://www.mail-archive.com/lin...@vg.../msg127992.html) Note also that it seems no single quirk seems to help so far. trace output of module loading (not quirk 0x100 is otherwise auto enabled though i manually passed it in the trace): [ 1287.719470] usbcore: deregistering interface driver uvcvideo [ 1382.531770] uvcvideo: Probing generic UVC device 5 [ 1382.532496] uvcvideo: Found format MJPEG. thanks a lot for the quick response. I downloaded the installation medium and booted the live media. Attached you can find the dmesg that shows the same behavior as with Fedora. Hello, I do have an Asus N550 laptop with integrated WebCAM. However uvc in Fedora FC27 does not provide a /dev/video device for it. Any suggestions how to configure my Linux to use the WebCAM ? In Windows the WebCAM works well, however with a generic driver the picture is flipped upside down as known for other ASUS integrated WebCAMs as well. dmesg output [ 0.000000] microcode: microcode updated early to revision 0x24, date = 2018-01-21 [ 0.000000] Linux version 4.15.15-300.fc27.x86_64 (mockbuild@bkernel 01.phx2.fedoraproject.org) (gcc version 7.3.1 20180303 (Red Hat 7.3.1- 5) (GCC)) #1 SMP Mon Apr 2 23:14:02 UTC 2018 [ 0.000000] Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.15.15- 300.fc27.x86_64 root=/dev/mapper/fedora-root ro rd.lvm.lv=fedora/root rd.lvm.lv=fedora/swap rhgb quiet LANG=en_US.UTF-8 ... Hello. I can't seem to get my webcam on a Lenovo Ideapad 100 series notebook to work in Linux. The webcam has a device ID of 13d3:5744. Apparently the UVC driver isn't compatible with this device as of yet. Chris B. |

This is a fixed camera that comes with the EliteBook 840 G4 model. UVC seems to detect the camera as compatible, but both cheese and guvcview complain that they cannot find the device. /dev/video0 does not exist. The device is not listed as an alias in modinfo, so I tried forcing the VID:PID via "echo 04f2:b595 >/sys/bus/usb/drivers/uvcvideo/new_id", but that didn't work. I did capture trace logs as the FAQ describes, which I'm including attached. Thank you -- Eric Burgueño |

Hi everyone, I was looking to reverse engineer a linux driver for a Japanese capture card I have and I came across libusb and libuvc. The device is a I-O Data GV-USB2 capture card. I'm not sure if this is a UVC compliant device so I thought I would ask you guys if you would know. Here is a link to the English set-up guide for the Windows driver it comes with. It might have some kind of information about it. http://iotku.pw/gvusb2-guide/ And, here are the specifications of the device (in Japanese) directly from the manufacturer's website: http://www.iodata.jp/product/av/capture/gv-usb2/spec.htm I would be willing to work on this myself if this is a UVC-compliant device and no one else wants to work on it but I am still very new to learning about USB devices so I might need some pointers or guidance. If it helps, I was able to capture some USB "packets" from running Wireshark with usbmon on a host linux system while using the Windows driver in Window 10 as a guest system in Virtualbox. If this is the wrong place to inquire about this, let me know where I should direct this question. Thanks, Arthur |

Hi, > Is usb3 vision camera supported in linux by uvc driver ? No. Vision Interfaces are entirely separate implementations from UVC. There are devices that have both interfaces, but they are not that common. To my knowledge there is currently no kernel driver that allows interaction with vision devices. Your best bet at this point is probably aravis[1]. It has support for both GigE and USB Vision protocols. [1]https://github.com/AravisProject/aravis Regards, Edgar |
