But isn't your need only to get the Win drivers from NTFS? That could be
done by just using ntfscat. And for the rest, one could use the NTFS
driver.

I meant typical ntfsprogs users. At least Trinity Rescue Kit,
SystemRescueCd, QTParted, Crash Recovery Kit, Partboot for USB floppy
drives, Mkpart, Knoppix, RIP, Mandrake, SuSE, Adios, MEPIS, Libranet
installs, etc. It would have been a PITA for them.
