Hi list
I apologize if I've managed my "search everywhere" homework poorly.
I was not able to find any information on the problem I've encountered.
I've got the infamous Fujitsu (see for example
http://www.sunpig.com/martin/archives/2002/12/10/the_dead_disk_blues_part_3/)
MPG3204AH which is failing from time to time. I mounted it under Redhat 9 using
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/linux-ntfs/kernel-ntfs-2.4.20-8smp.i686.rpm
RPM listed at http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/info/redhat.html.
Now I see a few dozen directories and files whose names have "?" as a prefix,
and I'm getting "file <filename> not found" if I try to copy them.
The thing is, they are recognized and can be copied under XP
(within 60 seconds it takes to reboot from one OS to another - I tried
a few time to make sure it's not because of HDD's failure).
Hence I figured there must be something wrong in the way ntfs module
deals with these files.
Is there anything I can do to track what's going on ?
In particular, I noted in the subject that this is RUS localized version
of XP and pretty much all of these files have russian names - can it be
something related to charset for examples ?
Thanks a lot for any related information,
Regards,
Andrei Dergatchev
