Hey folks --
I would like to use the NTFS module to rename a file on my NTFS partition.
Specifically, in an effort to prevent having to re-activate Windows XP when
I switch from booting XP natively to VMWare (off the raw NTFS partition), I
want to try switching between two versions of "wpa.dbl" (the file that
maintains the hardware configuration for WPA). The idea is to mount the
NTFS partition rw, rename "wpa_native.dbl" to "wpa.dbl" when booting native,
or rename "wpa_vmware.dbl" to "wpa.dbl" when booting VMWare, then unmount
the NTFS partition, and boot.
A bit long winded, but my question comes down to -- is it safe to rename
files on NTFS partitions? I am using kernel 2.4.21 -- do I need to patch it
to get the "new" NTFS module?
Thanks for any help!
cheers,
-steve
