So don't reboot ;) just boot it in your favourite virtual machines.
Preferably Win using a native disk partition so you not only can check
"easily" the Win fixes/output but you can also trace how it's
happening through your favourite kernel/syscall hooks.

As probably anybody, I also agree on the necessity of e2fsck style
unit tests. The question is, I think, more like who will do it? One
way could be "embrace, customise, extend" the ext2 test tools.
