 Thanks for the reply. That solved it beautifully. First run fdisk -lu to find the beginning of the partition, and then use losetup to mount it.

 Can you just confirm these are the steps to use ntfsresize on a windows disk image?

 a) Increase the actual disk image

 b) Use parted to fill the partition to the full hard disk image

 c) Losetup the partition to dev/loop

 d) Run ntfsresize on /dev/loop
