I thought I would take the effort in trying how well ntfs-3g would work, so
I converted my windows xp sp2 fat32 to ntfs.
I installed fuse-2.5.3 and ntfs-3g 20070811-BETA, and activated the kernel
module, from v2.6.17.8. (dmesg: fuse init (API version 7.6))
Then I mounted /dev/sda2 to /mnt/windows and took a look there:
Orion:root /mnt/windows $ ls
...
Bootfont.bin ntdetect.com ntldr WINDOWS
...
I didn't like the windows directory in all capitals, so I changed it:
Orion:root /mnt/windows $ mv WINDOWS windows
Orion:root /mnt/windows $ ls
...
Bootfont.bin ntdetect.com ntldr
...
Orion:root /mnt/windows $ ls windows
ls: windows: No such file or directory
Apparantly somehow my windows directory didn't like being renamed, and
decided to just move away. I hope to see this bug gets fixed. I tried to
reproduce the bug, but I was only able to do it with Program Files, not
other directories (Perhaps Documents and settings, but not going to try on
that). All data still seems to be there, so I'm going to try to recover. :)
