Thank you for your quick reply.
Thins improved very much after boot time defrag with trial PerfectDisk Roxo
software.
So I googled last night, looking for a defragger/tweak that would fully defrag
all the NTFS, MFT included... I finally found that perfectDisk would do it (1).
Actually, it did it, in a fast & apparently effective way, therewhile I'll show
the output of ntfsresize after boot-time defrag (with Pd7) rather than what
you requested me to do. Sorry about that.
# ntfsresize -n -s 5G /dev/hda1

ntfsresize v1.12.1 (libntfs 8:1:0)

Space in use : 1790 MB (16.8%)

Schedule chkdsk for NTFS consistency check at Windows boot time ...
Resetting $LogFile ... (this might take a while)

Updating Boot record ...
The read-only test run ended successfully.

It runs way better than before boot-time defrag :
!
I'll print here whatever output you might want to look further. Please just
ask :)
You might want to see the screenshots I made before/after defraging from within
winXP, as they could give you part of the info you requested (2)
