After one successful install of Ubuntu on my laptop, I'm attempting an install
on our main desktop, to dual-boot with XP. The desktop is a three-year old Gateway
with a 60GB single partition hard drive. I've tried unsuccessfully numerous
times to repartition the hard drive using ntfsresize(both on the Ubunutu 5.04
install disk and from a Knoppix 3.9 CD) and keep getting numerous 'cluster accounting
errors' when ntfsresize initially looks over the filesystem.
I've tried the 'chkdsk /f' and 'chkdsk /r' from XP and both finish successfully
but still don't change the outcome of the ntfsresize. I've downloaded the most
recent version of ntfsprogs (v. 1.11.2) on a rescue CD (RIP - Linux) and tried
that, as it was supposed to fix some of the errors people encountered using
ntfsresize, but got the same result.
The XP install works fine and no errors are generated from the chkdsk or
a defrag.
I'm at a loss!! I'd really hate to reinstall windows again if I can avoid it,
but I do recognize that could be the next step unless someone has an idea of
what to fix!
Thanks, Scott
