The driver can work at sector level meanwhile ntfsclone always works at cluster level. If one sector is wrong then ntfsclone marks the entire cluster bad, in your case all the 8 sectors. This is not too smart, I was aware of it already but so far I didn't consider it too important to improve on it. Your example demonstrated that it is important and I'll add the needed support for ntfsclone as soon as possible (after about two weeks).
