There are a few sites on the web that dissasembled the boot sector and explain what it does. mkntfs does a good (but not perfect) job at the moment so I don't know how usefull would it be, but you're welcome. If you want your code to be integrated to mkntfs make sure all the code is you're own and post it to the linux-ntfs-dev mailing list.
